When the owners of famed Delaware Ave. clubs Egypt and Deco opened Shampoo in 1998, it was considered one of the city's hottest and most extravagant nightspots. Today, it's lost little of its luster as the place to go to get your dance on, thanks to a continuously evolving lineup of DJs and music. Inside, the enormous two-floor space is divided into several different areas, including eight bars, the 'Velvet Underground' lounge, the tented outdoor 'Groove Garden' (complete with hot tub) and several dance floors. Choose which night you visit wisely: Wednesdays, be prepared for the best in goth with Nocturne while Fridays are the (in)famous Shaft Fridays, one of the city's biggest gay dance parties. Saturdays usually bring in guest DJs for marathon sets that often go until the early morn. On a typical evening, though, expect lots of house, techno, hip-hop and high-energy dance music, and a crowd that's more South Jersey than Northern Liberties. |
